About Handy Adaptive Products
Inspired by My Daughter, Jeanne
Jeanne came into our lives with a little extra—atypical Rett syndrome. Diagnosed at just 10 months old, she has faced daily challenges due to this rare neurological disorder, which primarily affects girls and impacts about 1 in every 10,000 to 15,000 people worldwide. Jeanne also lives with refractory epilepsy, a condition we’ve had to adapt to as a family.
Through the years, we’ve learned to embrace this reality, facing obstacles both medically and personally. Despite everything, Jeanne’s resilience, gentle spirit, and loving nature continue to inspire us. She teaches us patience, strength, and perseverance—motivating us to do everything possible to support her development and improve her daily life.
How Handy Adaptive Products Was Born
When Jeanne was born, my husband Eric and I made the decision that I would stay home to provide her with the best possible care. Managing her therapies, medical appointments, and everyday needs became my priority. As our family grew with the arrival of our two boys, Lucas and Nathan, I began noticing a significant gap in the availability of adaptive clothing and accessories.
Dressing Jeanne was often a challenge, and in speaking with other parents, I realized that I wasn’t alone. When she was preparing to start specialized school, I felt a strong need for personal fulfillment—but I also needed a business that allowed for flexibility. One day, after struggling to put on her snowsuit, I had a thought:
"What if I designed the adaptive products we need and made them available to other families?"
With that, I created my first three products: an adaptive bodysuit for gastrostomy, a snowsuit, and winter boots. I worked on the business during nap times and late nights, and after two years of dedication, Handy Adaptive Products was officially launched in June 2019.
Our Mission
At Handy Adaptive Products, our goal is simple: to make life easier for families of children with disabilities. Jeanne’s journey has given me purpose beyond our family, allowing me to create solutions that truly meet the needs of parents and caregivers.
Together, with Jeanne as my inspiration, we continue to develop high-quality, functional, and comfortable products that provide dignity, independence, and practicality for children, teens, and adults with special needs.
